Most workers in the District are entitled to earn paid sick leave that may be used for their own medical care or for the care of a child or other family member. The leave may also be used to obtain assistance related to domestic violence or sexual assault.

Expanded in 2013-14 to cover tipped restaurant and bar workers, shorten the waiting period to being accruing paid sick days and strenthen enforcement.
